Return to Home Page Update to late 2011: Since the article below was written: The syndication referred to in the article below did not take place, and the property remains wholely owned by the Lockie family. It is in the process of being renamed as 'West Auckland Airport Parakai'. Six hangars have been constructed, some privately owned and some airport owned. The runway has been sealed, and concrete taxiways and hard-stand areas laid. A new 'Tower' building was constructed during 2011 with offices for Leading Edge and more engineering space on the ground floor, space for the Airport owners upstairs, and a tower for aviation events. A house has been built for Simon Lockie, the Airport Manager, who lives on the airport and also runs Parakai Flying School with several instructors on staff. A Tecnam Echo Super and Piper Warrior are 'on line' as trainers for students at the Parakai Flying School, and for hire by suitable licenced pilots. Simon, Bryn and Harvey Lockie have all gained their instructor ratings, Harvey at ATO level. Bryn Lockie's Leading Edge Aviation engineering company has moved into a permanent hangar and he has taken on more engineering staff to keep up with the work and an office administrator to help with the recording and compliance paperwork. Harvey now flys a DynAero 'Club', and Bryn a Mooney. |
