Hangars and Facilities:

Venue for Events:   West Auckland Airport Parakai has a variety of buildings and facilities available for hire for club events, video production, meetings, marketing presentations etc. Phone Simon Lockie on '0800 FlyWest' for information and to book.

Fly-Ins:   Flying Clubs are welcome to hold fly-ins at West Auckland Airport. Landing fees can be charged by the airport at the normal rates, or if the club prefers they can collect these in bulk and have a reduced rate of $5 / aircraft for all day use. There are a variety of buildings, and equipment available for spot landings, BBQs, tea and coffee etc, and if any assistance if required from the airport staff, please ask. New Hangars:   As at mid 2011 there are five hangars at West Auckland Airport, the Leading Edge Aviation engineering hangar, and four privately owned storage hangars. Phone Simon Lockie on '0800 FlyWest' for information on hangar space and building of private hangars. It is planned to build two more hangars starting late 2011.

Hangarage and Permanent Parking: Space for aircraft is sometimes available in existing hangars. Outside tie-downs are always available for short or long stay aircraft parking.

Aircraft available for hire:   (Ring for hirage rates).

- Tecnam P92 Echo Super (fly on PPL or Microlight licence);

- Piper Warrior (PPL).

Taxiway and Aprons

Fuel: Aviation Fuel 110 octane, Racing fuel 100 octane, and Mogas Premium Unleaded, payable by EFTPoS or credit card. No oil company swipe cards yet. Oil for Continental / Lycoming engines, and the Shell oil specifically blended Rotax 912 engines. Available most business hours and often at weekends, but sometimes we're all off flying so ring Simon Lockie on '0800 FlyWest' if refueling is going to be critical to continuing a flight.

Pilot Shop at the Office... Maps, Nav protractors and EC6B slide rules, Headsets, Rotax oil and spark plugs, Log books, SAC full text book for licence theory, Tee shirts, Hats etc.

Clubrooms & Office : Coffee, Tea, Cold drinks, Toilets, Showers, Flight Planning/Briefing room. Drop-in visitors welcome.

Available at Blue Skies Skydiving building: Cold Drinks, Snacks/Pies, Icecreams.

Accomodation: Locally available at various levels; B&B, Motel, backpackers etc, nearby in Parakai, and Helensville. Or approx 30 minutes away in Auckland City or the North Shore. Plus a simple bunkhouse on the airport.

Transport: Rental cars arranged. Airport courtesy car available for visiting aviators by arrangement. 33mts to Auckland CBD; 30 mts Albany, 24 mts Silverdale.

Maintenance: Leading Edge Aviation Ltd (Bryn Lockie, L.A.M.E. and I.A.) based on the airport to service Certified, Sports and Microlight Aircraft. Metal or composite airframes. Leading Edge Aviation Ph 021 681-900.

Flight Training: Introductory Flights and Flight Training for Recreational pilots in a Tecnam Echo, and PPL in Piper Warrior.

Flight Theory Exams: PPL Exams are held at West Auckland Airport and need to be booked one week in advance for ASL to prepare papers etc. Microlight exams can be sat at any time by arrangement. Exams are available to all, whether or not they have attended the theory lectures or done flight training at West Auckland.

Flight Test and BFR: For PPL or ML are able to be taken at West Auckland Airport.
