DynAero MCR-01 'Club', ZK-WIK
The MGL EFIS systems come with nine predefined screens. We've chosen to modify these to suit the owners' preferences.
Start up screen, #1, on ZK-WIK. We've modified a standard screen rather than using the 'checklist' function in the Enigma, as we wanted to have engine bars, voltage , QNH etc that relate to startup, as well as the list.
Main flight screen, #2. The blue area is a moving GPS map using the vector maps. This screen is cluttered, but contains everything that the owner wants and nothing that he doesn't.
Screen #3. This is a simplified version of Screen #2 above, and used if doing a demo of the aircraft to a new pilot. Screen #2 causes information overload on a pilot who is new to it, though we've found that everyone graduates from this screen to #2 within a few hours flight once they have their heads around it.
Enigma in action in the real world. Above, looking at the LHS of the screen: ZK-WIK is flying at 142kt IAS [big centre left numbers] , which is 145 TAS [top LHS corner] after the Enigma has adjusted for density at 1614ft [to the right of the ball] , QNH 1027 [above alt] and 11C [below ball]. We're in balance [ball is in the centre of its marks] and plugging a 20kt headwind as the Ground speed is 125kts [GS, lower LHS corner]. The time is 1618 local, or 0419 UTC [z , below ball]. We're tracking 136M [centre top], climbing at 50 fpm [below QNH] going to 'Kaipara Flats' airfield on the GPS, which is slightly to the left of the current heading as indicated by the arrow inside the compass. Kaipara Flats is 10.9 [NM] away [below compass], and we'll be there in 5mts [ETE] which will be 1623 local time [ETA - beside compass]. Fuel flow is showing 15.6 L/hour [below ball]. Meanwhile the engine is happy, all bars are green and if any exceed their parameters they will go yellow or red a voice will come through the headset, "Oil pressure low" or whatever.
Looking at the RHS of the screen: We're currently at S36.14 E174.28 [below map], and the ground must be 100ft high as we're 1512 ft AGL [below map], the scale from the aircraft symbol to the top of the map is 7.8nm. These numbers are on the 'look ahead' terrain graph, which is blank as there is no terrain with 1000 ft of our height within the next 7.8 miles ahead. The road and railway are to the left, and we're coming up on 'Te Hana' town with an Airspace change at the light blue line 4 miles ahead, and a mile before that a cultured South African voice will say "Airspace - Airspace", and two miles from Kaipara Flats "Waypoint Arrival". Below 65kts the voice will start slowly reading out speeds, which leaves the pilot able to look out the window continuously on final, and also acts as a warning if you go too slow in bad weather configuration. It would take a lot of round dials to do all this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DynAero MCR-01, ZK-SML
ZK-SML in the Southern Alps, New Zealand.
Voyager Screen #1, ZK-SML, with startup checklist specific to this aircraft.
Voyager Screen #2, ZK-SML, with the owner's choice of functions to display. The black area to the right is the GPS moving map and the green/yellow/black stripe is the 'terrain look ahead' graph.
Voyager Screen #3, ZK-SML. A simplified version for pilots new to the system, though on the Voyager the screen clutter is not as much of a problem as on the Enigma.
Voyager Screen #7, ZK-SML. This is a generic disgnostic screen able to handle up to six cylinders.
The Voyager at home in ZK-SML during test on installation. Checklist on Screen #1 with the Oil Pressure bar showing red as it's sensor is not connected yet.
The Voyager showing Screen #3 during test on installation. Note the survial round dials to the top right, a small ASI and Altimeter. The 'Oil Pressure' bar is red as it is not connected yet. The Voyager is noticeably less cluttered than the Enigma for the same amount of information, and is better if you have enough real estate available on the panel Go to Parakai Airfield Homepage
